Based in New York, N.Y. 10022, for 175 years now Tiffany & Co. is synonymous with romance, style, quality and luxury. Few American companies have such an illustrious history. Celebrities and heads of state alike have worn Tiffany designs of gold, silver and precious stones.
The year was 1837 when Charles Lewis Tiffany and John Young started the business. Charles Tiffany's tireless search for one-of-a-kind objects charmed and fascinated the wealthy of New York. In 1848 the New York City newspapers dubbed Charles Lewis Tiffany “The King of Diamonds” and when the store obtained some of the French crown jewels in 1887, Tiffany's fame spread far and wide. Charles Lewis Tiffany’s obsession in the simple elegance of classic silver design earned Tiffany & Co. the highly coveted Award of Merit at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1867. This was the first time an American company had been recognized by a European jury.
Of the many achievements under the leadership of Charles Lewis Tiffany, it was Tiffany & Co. that introduced the engagement ring as we know it today. The celebrated six-prong “Tiffany® Setting” lifts the diamond above the band and into the light. The result is a ring whose beauty has never been equaled.
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), the celebrated jewelry and glass designer, was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany. His remarkable career designing jewelry, windows and decorative glass spanned 57 years. In 1902 he became Tiffany & Co.'s first Design Director, creating fantastic jewelry designs inspired both by nature and the art of other cultures. His patent for opalescent window glass in 1881 and his commissions for Mark Twain, Cornelius Vanderbilt and many others earned him an international reputation. His work has been honored by museums and treasured by collectors around the world.
Soon Tiffany designers were creating brilliance of their own. From the glittering 1890s on, timeless Tiffany designs graced women from the finest families: the Astors, the Vanderbilts, the Morgans. Celebrities from the theater, sports and ultimately European royalty and Hollywood stars began to prize Tiffany diamond designs.

Gorgeous, a woman's dream! I always knew I wanted to go to Tiffany's when in NYC as it was a touristy thing to do and their jewellery is beautiful. But beware, I went in to 'browse' and left with a stunning $600 bracelet! It is so easy so get sucked in to the beauty and excitement of the store. The staff were so welcoming and friendly - even though I looked like a messy tourist (and have a lot of tattoo's), I didn't feel judged in such an elegant place. Make sure you speak to a staff member when you first walk in if you are looking to buy as the first floor is their 'showcase' floor and the other levels are their 'gold floor' 'silver floor' etc so if you know what you are after you can go straight there. Loved it, and have no regrets on my purchase!
